LOOK: Collegiate 'mermaids' call for a ban on fishing

To really make their statement stand out, two female college students dressed up as mermaids to call for a ban on fishing during the official closed fishing season in Henan's Danjiangkou Reservoir.

According to NetEase, all fishing activities are banned in the reservoir from March to June every year during breeding season. These two mermaids would like to remind us all to please give fish the chance to breed. They did so by lounging on a boat and freeing captive fishies.
To their credit, Chinese fishermen seem to be heeding the mermaids' words. Leaving Danjiangkou alone, and instead venturing off to fish the far-off waters near Indonesia and Argentina.

Last week, a similarly environmentally conscious "mermaid" and future flight attendant posed for pictures to mark World Water Day. In an event with no relation to Stephen Chow's recent record-breaking hit.

We say, the more adorable mermaids, the better!
