87% of headrest covers go missing after Hello Kitty train's maiden voyage in Taiwan

A total of 328 specially-designed headrest covers for Taiwan's brand-new Hello Kitty-themed Taroko Express were stolen during its first day of operations on Monday.

The Taiwan Railway Administration said that they had prepared 120 covers as backup just in case, but were caught off guard when some 87% of the headrest covers disappeared, leaving them with only 48 of an original 376.

They estimated that the stolen covers resulted in a loss of around $490.
The train makes the 11-hour journey from Taipei to Taitung and will start regular weekend service on April 21. However, you might want to book ahead. Headrest covers are going fast.
