There may be no such thing as going too far when it comes to seeking Mr. Right. On Friday, nearly 300 women went through an audition in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, in order to get one of the 12 tickets to go on a blind date with rich men in Dubai.
The candidates were being screened for dates with single men, each with a net worth of over 50 million yuan (7.7 million US dollars), the event’s organizer told Sichuan Online.
The organizer received over 2,000 applications from Sichuan Province, and selected 280 women for Friday’s audition. Aged between 19 and 48, the women came from various professional backgrounds, such as primary school teachers, office workers to even a beauty queen.
The women needed to get through three strict tests if they were to win a ticket. The first round focused on physical appearance; the second on their professional qualifications; and the third on their past relationships.
Apart from these, the contestants also needed to share information about their Friends Circle, a social platform on WeChat that can only be seen by one’s friends. Those who liked to flaunt wealth or displayed too much negative content were ruled out.
The organizer said that they will be selecting 50 women in total from around China for the blind dates in Dubai.
However, the event doesn’t seem to have gone down well with netizens in the country, with many hitting out at it.
“It’s a pathetic result of a society that thinks too much of money,” said @Wushuangliunian.
“It’s ridiculous. These women might be beautiful, but attending such activities is just degrading. How hard should we work so that we can get other people’s respect and have a sense of self-worth?” questioned @Xieerdexin.
