Woman dies after being trapped in her apartment's broken elevator for 30 days

A woman's remains have been removed from the elevator of an apartment complex she lived in after a malfunction trapped her inside for over a month.
According to NetEase, the incident took place in Xian, Shaanxi province. Reports indicate that police found a female corpse in the elevator on March 1 and subsequently launched an investigation into the woman's death

A local resident, surnamed Wang, told reporters that the building has two elevators which can be used by all residents. She said that one of the elevators had been out of service since late January.
When returning home from work on March 1, she noticed an ambulance accompanied by a large number of police and paramedics outside the building. "At first I thought that one of the elderly residents was in trouble," said Wang. "I was later told by police that a body had been found in the elevator."
Upon hearing the news, residents began to gather at the bottom of the building to find out what was going on. "The paramedics told us that when they found the body, her hand had already begun to deform," Wang told reporters. "There were markings all over the inside of the elevator, it's just too horrible."

Although the elevator was cordoned off, some elderly residents of the building are reported to have sneaked a peak of the inside of the carriage. "The scene was inhumane," said Xiaolin, a tenant of the building. "We think she starved to death in there."
Chinese sources do not state how the deceased was able to go missing for so long without family, friends or anyone in the apartment building raising the alarm.
