A devastating snapshot of the tragic pre-slaughter parting of two heterosexual geese has captured the hearts of Chinese netizens after Valentine's Day.
Shot on the second day of the CNY, the image depicts two geese in Guangdong province kissing one another goodbye before being hauled off to get eaten.
Three days later the geese's owner, surnamed Deng, reported they had indeed both been consumed -- separately -- by her family at Spring Festival feasts, according to Sina.
The star-crossed lovers, frozen together in time via still image, struck a chord with netizens and garnered tens of thousands of shares on Weibo, with many lamenting the lovers' sad fate. While others commented that they both looked delicious.
According to Deng, the two were raised at her family home in the rural city of Meizhou, where they enjoyed a little over a year together.
Her weak-ass defense for taking lives and robbing the world of true beauty: the male goose had already been attacked by the family dog on previous occasions, plus her family's full-time working lifestyles prevented them from being adequate caretakers.
Romeo and Juliet got nothing on these lovebirds.
