If you are in the market for a girlfriend to come and spend Spring Festival with you this year, you're in luck! Once again, China is flush with potentially rentable mates that will help to temporarily ease your relatives' worries about you ever getting hitched, if you got the cash that is.
With CNY fast approaching, an intrepid reporter at Hunan TV decided to go out and investigate the matchmaking services that help to match up worried singles with partners willing to be pretend to be their significant other for the holiday. You'll no doubt be surprised to find that business is booming.
The first matchmaking office he visited told him that they offer girlfriends-for-rent at a flat fee of 2,999 RMB for the holiday. They assured him that they have boatloads of potential and pretty girlfriends for him, and that he will certainly be very satisfied if he decides to put down the cash.
Meanwhile, to dispel any doubts in the reporter's mind, another matchmaking service boasted about how they also arrange sham marriages, so a temporary girlfriend was really no big thing. They told him that he would have at least 20 to 30 girls to choose from.
They said that the arrangement would last for six to seven days and cost a fee of 3,000 to 4,000 RMB to be paid to the office.
The matchmakers also went on to explain the finer details of such an arrangement, including the prospect of him sharing the same room with his rented mate. "Think about it, if you bring a girlfriend home, you definitely would spend the night together," one worker explained, adding that since all potential girlfriends were young, co-habitation wasn't such a big thing for them.
The office explained that a normal contract would run for seven days, anything over that meant extra money. Meanwhile, if the client had to cancel early that wasn't their problem. No refunds.
They also revealed that they would not draw up a formal contract for the deal. In year's past there have been numerous cases of unlucky clients getting ripped off with no protection from the law. Happy holidays!
