Gigantic Motorized Shoe Burns Rubber on Chinese Highway

Many people are familiar with the children’s nursery rhyme, ‘There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.’ Like so many other things in life, it is time that people become familiar with the remake of that nursery rhyme, ‘There was a middle aged man who drove around town in a shoe.’ Granted, the rhyming scheme will be a bit harder to maintain, but there won’t be any doubt about the meaning behind the tale. In eastern China, a shoe manufacture from the Shandong Province has produced a nearly ten foot long motorized shoe.

Originally designed and created for advertising purposes, it seems that among local residents the motorized shoe causes confusion more than anything else. But it also generates a fair number of ready-made bad puns, such as ‘Are you traveling by foot?’ and ‘Is that a Shoe-baru you’re driving?’ Those awful jokes aside, the vehicle is actually quite impressive. For starters, the shoe, which is in the classic Irish brogue style, is made of real leather, which on its own cost nearly $6,000.

The engine powering the shoe has not been revealed to the public, but according to a company spokesman, it takes four hours to charge fully and can go nearly 250 miles on a single charge. It can also reach speeds up to 50mph, which helps explain why it can be driven on the busy highways surrounding the city of Linyi. Unfortunately, unlike the electric car shoe created by the Kang Shoe Company, which is a two-seater, this new version can carry only one passenger. Hopefully the new motorized shoe will kick up more sales for the company, as they’ve invested over $12,000 to produce the most mobile piece of footwear available. We might suggest that in addition to making the company logo on the heel of the shoe a bit larger, perhaps the driver doesn’t need to wear a mask. Foot odor jokes can’t be far off in either case, but let’s hope they don’t end in attempted murder over smelly shoes.
